Rafa wants to stay with Huesca
Spain U21 international Rafa Mir plans to hold talks with the club about his future as he continues to make a good impression in LaLiga with Huesca this season. Despite being loaned to one of the smallest Spanish clubs, the forward has scored 15 goals in 33 games in all competitions, leading to calls for him to make Spain’s national team in the European Championship. With his loan deal ending soon – and his contract with Wolves expiring in June 2022 – Mir spoke about his future amid reports that he might be set to return to Valencia. “Maybe I have improved a lot,” Mir said. “I think that in Huesca, I found people who trust and believe in me. That is what was good for me and everyone needs. For the future, I don’t know.”
Huesca are trying to stay in the first division
“I am focused on my day-to-day work; I work 100 per cent for the coach and my fellow players. At the end of the year, we will all sit down and see what is best for my future. But that’s not what I’m worried about at the moment. I’m focusing on playing for Huesca, and we will see what is best for me, the club and everyone. Now we are trying to stay in the first division, and we are working on that.” Spain Under-21 international Mir earned a reputation as the top young talent in a time work at Valencia before he made a move to the Wolves side of the Premier League. He has since been in a series of loan transfers but has now established himself as a top-tier second-year striker at Huesca, who helped the club earn promotion last season.
After Villarreal’s Gerard Moreno, Mir is the second-best Spanish scorer in LaLiga this season. There have been speculations that he could make Spain’s squad for the UEFA European Championship. A more realistic target could be the Olympics in Tokyo, where Spain was drawn into a tough group alongside Egypt, Argentina and Australia. Rafa, however, insists that he is only focused on ending the season strongly with Huesca. “We have the national team and then the Olympic Games, but it will be up to the coach to do the call ups,” he added. “I would be glad if they called me up, but that’s not what I focus on. We have important games. After the season, I’ll see what happens.”
