Well deserved award
28-year-old Chinese footballer who plays as a left-winger for Spanish Club RCD Espanyol Wu Lei is nominated for Chinese player of the year 2019 and will receive the award on January 17, morning. This award, Wu Lei, will get the second time continuously. But the contrast is that this time he played a whole year in Spain. He’s debut in Spanish club started on January 28, 2019. Wu has signed a three-year contract with an option for an additional decade. He became one of the talented players of LaLiga due to his speed, boldness, and faithfulness. Chinese Footballer total scored nine goals for Espanyol.
Youngest Chinese professional footballer
His career started in the People’s Republic of China. Chinese striker started playing for Shanghai SIPG, and he was only 14 years old. He became the youngest Chinese player ever played professional football. He scored his first goal for Shanghai SIPG on August 30, 2008, in and won 2 – 0 against Qingdao Hailifeng. Lei scored his first hat trick on June 2, 2013, and won 6 – 1 against Shanghai Shenxin. After a few years, in 2018, Wu became the top goalscorer in Chinese Super League history, with 102 goals. He also won Golden boot award with 27 goals and named the Chinese Football association footballer of the year.
Wu Lei’s breakthrough moment against Barcelona
In the last match of “Derbi Barceloni” on January 5, 2020, the first goal of the game scored by Espanyol central defender David Lopez with his header from a free-kick by Marc Roca on the 23 minutes. In the second half Barcelona forward Luis Suarez took their first goal into Espanyol Door. After nine minutes, Barca increased the score with the aim of Arturo Vidal. Wu started the match on the substitute’s place, he replaced injured Oscar Melendo on 74’ of the game. After a 14-minute Chinese footballer took the ball from Matias Vargas, Lei smashed unstoppable drive into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box. He gave a chance to his team, to save the match. But the referee added only 5 minutes. So on 95’ referee ended the Derbi match. Wu Lei played only 21 minutes, and the whole game was on his top of excellency. China and Spanish LaLiga must be proud that they have a player like Wu Lei.
