Paulo Fonseca admits he is happy after his side bounced back from AC Milan’s defeat to ease 2-1 past Fiorentina. Roma lost 2-1 to AC Milan.

Leonardo Spinazzola netted at both ends as he equalizes his 48 minutes opener with an on goal 12 minutes later. Amadou Diawara scored with a brilliant shot to the bottom corner 2 minutes to the stoppage time to hand the Roma victory.

“It was a difficult match. We won largely due to the excellent second-half performance,” Fonseca said.

The delighted Fonseca also acknowledged the solid defense and the important 3 points. He also appreciated the team’s reaction after Milan’s defeat.

“We had other opportunities and were solid defensively. It was very important that we get the win this evening,” he said.

“It was a great attitude and team spirit this evening. I think we won an important match for us. It’s true we have made mistakes against the big clubs, there’s always something missing. But we have to work on those elements,” he added.

“Diawara had been out for a long time, then Gonzalo Villar was doing well. So it was difficult to find playing time.

“Diawara came back in the Europa League and he played really well today, not just because of the goal, but his overall performance. I am glad to have this extra option if he is in good shape,” he concluded.

AS Roma sits in 5th place 9 points behind leaders Inter Milan. They are 6 points off the second-place AC Milan who drew with Udinese on Wednesday night. Both Napoli and Lazio are trail Roma at 6th and 7th with 44 and 43 points respectively.

On the other hand, Sassuolo Chief Giovanni Carnevali has revealed he is determined to keep Coach Roberto De Zerbi next season. He (Carnevali) also admits that the European spot is the target.

“Europe is an ambition for the coach and the club. Naturally, it was also in our minds before the season began,” Carnevali.

“The club made a decision to count on a young coach with great quality and prospects, even if he had arrived after relegation with Benevento.”

“We are confident De Zerbi could do a great job at many big clubs, but we hope to keep hold of him for more than another year,” Carnevali said.
