Ronald Koeman admitted that it would be good if Atletico drop their points

Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman has said he would like Real to win the Madrid derby on Sunday afternoon. Without actually naming Real Madrid, the coach made reference to Atletico Madrid as leaders and said it would be good to drop their points. “First, there’s our game. We have to win,” Koeman said during Friday’s pre-match press conference. “It’s always the best result if the team at the top drops points. But we shouldn’t be obsessed with their game because if we don’t win.” Barcelona’s three-person defence has been much discussed after successfully playing against Sevilla, yet Koeman doesn’t want to focus on the system. “You can continue this system because there are other centre-backs and defenders,” he said.

Barcelona have improved  lot

“We shouldn’t be obsessed with one system. The most important thing is the relationship with the ball and, above all, we have improved a lot. We have improved our pressure and ball recoveries in places where we can create danger.” After Osasuna’s game on Saturday, Barcelona are next on track to face Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, 4-1 down from the first leg, but could the Catalans’ recent rise in form help them make an incredible comeback? “The recent results, especially the return against Sevilla, have given us a lot of morale,” said Koeman. “The Champions League game is Wednesday; now we have to think about tomorrow.” Ilaix Moriba has been getting more playing time with Barcelona’s first team lately, and Koeman is glad to have seen so far away from the 18-year-old. “He’s one of the young players we have,” said the Dutchman.

“He’s played with Barcelona B, with the first team, he did well, and he’s the competition we have in midfield. He can do a lot like Riqui Puig. Some young players are knocking on the door of the starting lineup.”
