Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brought in club legends such as Roy Keane and Ryan Giggs plus a new team of analysts to change his team and move joint-top of the Premier League.
Earlier in the season, Solskjaer found himself under pressure following patchy form and worrying defeats that included the 6-1 home thrash by Tottenham in October. The coach therein topped the list as one of the favorites for the sack.
All the same, the coach seems to have put aside claims of being axed and worked hard in the background to improve the team’s fortune and create a “family feel” at the Carrington training ground.
The Norwegian has been paying close attention to the club’s young talents, encouraging starlets to play beyond their age group and he is also in an attempt to fast-track the signing of the 18-year-old Amad Diallo.
Currently, United is thriving at the top of the table after a revamp inside the club. As it’s reported, Solskjaer has brought in club legends, has taken interest in data, and also hired analysts to help boost the team as the club targets to improve the squad by 20% each year.
By overhauling his background staff, he has hired the head of data Andrew Meredith. The new hire feeds information to players and coaches while the new head of performance Richard Hawkins analyses the group from a physical perspective.
Martyn Pert who has been in the club since last season specializes in keeping players who aren’t playing fit and ensuring they are ready when called upon. As an addition to securing experts, Solskjaer has also been kept to ensure people who know the club inside and out are present.
Former midfielder Keane has come in to speak to the youngsters about their experiences at Old Trafford as has Wales boss Ryan Giggs.
These changes have helped lift the mood around the club and gone a long way to help Solskjaer in his quest for a trophy and improving the team.
Speaking after United’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa, Solskjaer refused to say his side were in the run for the title. Although, he admitted his pride at the team’s resurgence.
He said, “I am very happy with the position we find ourselves in. I think the league is going to be so tight. Every time you win a game, you take it one step further. You can lose the chance to be in the title race in the first 10 games. So, this is a good position to be in. if you can win games like tonight, it will make a big difference”.
“Of course, we are happy with what we are doing. It is such a big difference from 12 months ago. We have improved immensely and we are getting fitter and fitter, stronger and stronger. We should not get too carried away. It’s not a cup final yet. But these points are important”.
