Luis Suarez is injured and will not be able to help Barcelona for a long time. It appears that the Catalan club will only extend the deal to the 33-year-old Uruguayan striker if the latter has played at least 60% of the team’s matches in the 2020/21 season.
“My family and I feel really good in Barcelona. I think I can still benefit the team. I would like to play in Barcelona again, but it doesn’t depend only on me. The management of the club must make the decision to extend the contract.
If I play more than 60% of the matches next season, the contract will be automatically extended,” Luis told Spanish media.
Suarez has a contract with the club until June 2021. The striker has scored 11 goals in 17 appearances for Barça this season.
“I know how old I am”
Luis has also commented on Lautero Martinez’s transfer to the Catalan club. The media are actively linking the future of Milan’s Argentine forward to Barcelona.
“Lautaro is really talented, and he has a very high level of confidence. But the players don’t make the decision. For the latest two years, I have been saying that it would be great if Barcelona invited a young striker to have enough time to adapt and train before I can say goodbye to the club.
When you play, sometimes you realize that it is time for you to rest. Such is football. Bringing new players into the team is useful as it creates a competitive environment and sparks interest in playing football again. I know how old I am. I also understand that the career is coming to an end, and the competition is beneficial to both the health and the team, ” Luis Suarez says.
