Paris Saint Germain midfielder Ander Herrera reveals how Mauricio Pochettino has transformed the Parisian club in multiple aspects.
The Spanish midfielder says PSG has improved under new manager Mauricio Pochettino compared to his predecessor. The Argentine has seen major wins at PSG, with UEFA Champions League tie wins against Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Herrera, who has struggled with injuries, reveals that Pochettino demands a 90-minute physical performance. He added that, unlike Thomas Tuchel, he calls for possession to score and not just for the sake.
“Physically, he demands more from you in the 90 minutes,” Herrera reveals.
“He wants possession, but not possession for possession’s sake. He wants the team to go for the opponent’s goal, more direct. Tuchel, with whom I also learned a lot, liked possession more,” he explained.
“Now, if the opponent has the ball, we don’t get desperate because we know that with any steal we can do damage. We have very good passers like Verratti or Draxler. Fast players like Mbappé, Neymar, Di Maria and Kean, and others with finishing like Sarabia,” he continued.
Also, Herrera says he is still confident that Paris Saint-Germain will keep both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. Although the clock continues to tick on Neymar and Mbappe’s PSG future, Ander believes they will sign a new contract.
“I want to focus on enjoying every day with them and achieving important things together,” Herrera said.
“And of course I want them to stay with us. PSG has created a structure around them to fulfill all their footballing ambitions,” the former Manchester United stated.
“I sincerely believe that they are happy, convinced of this project and that they want to stay,” Herrera added.
Meanwhile, PSG fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Pep Guardiola’s side Manchester City on Wednesday night Champions League Semis. The Parisian club has to beat City when they visit Etihad next week if they are to reach the finals.
