Thiago Silva becomes a free agent. Mikel Arteta wants to add the Brazilian central defender.
At the end of the season, Thiago Silva will leave Paris Saint-Germain for free, as a free agent. This was confirmed by the Parisian club when it announced that the Brazilian would not extend his contract.
Thiago Silva moved to the Ligue 1 champions in 2012 from AC Milan and spent eight years in France. The long-term relationship between the club and the player is coming to an end.
Many teams want the 35-year-old central defender. Among them is the London Arsenal. The English will consider Thiago, despite his age, as a replacement for David Luiz. Luiz will also become a free agent at the end of the current season and will most likely return to his former team, Benfica.
Mikel Arteta’s team has severe problems in the defensive line. The Spanish specialist urgently needs an experienced defender to rectify the situation in the backline. That is why, when opening a transfer window, Arsenal’s main target will be the addition of a defender.
Tiago himself wants to continue his career in Europe. Silva’s name has been linked with his former club, Fluminense, but the Brazilian himself has denied the rumors, saying he prefers to play in Europe.
“Everyone knows about my love for Fluminense, but I still have some goals in Europe,” Thiago said.
Silva wants to stay in Europe so much that he is ready to reduce even his salary. The current salary of a Brazilian is 5 325,000 a week. Nobody will pay such a large sum to a veteran player. So, Silva is ready to make a concession.
