Defensive line
Journalists asked Toni about the defenders and how Real Madrid can defend against Chelsea. German player noted that Los Blancos know how to defend well, especially after Ramos’s return. Keep in mind that Sergio Ramos returned in the squad list and now he has a chance to help Real Madrid. Don’t forget that Ramos missed most of the games from March because of the two injuries. Militao, Varane and Nacho played well in absence of Ramos. Even Raphael Varane got injured last week and Militao did a great job in La Liga. So, Militao will be included in the starting line-up against Chelsea. Everyone hopes that Ramos will also play from the first minutes. Kroos said that Chelsea is playing a very good pressing, so defenders need to be in safe hands. That’s why midfield will be very close to the defensive line to help at any moment.
What was absent in Madrid
Toni Kroos admitted that Real Madrid did not play well in the first 35 minutes of the Madrid game. Although Karim Benzema scored in the first half, Kroos admitted that Los Blancos players were not pressing very high in the first half. He said that in the second half, Real Madrid could not create many chances to score but the team was very comfortable because pressing high and Chelsea could not do it in the attacking line either. So, Real Madrid has to play very high and press the defensive line of Chelsea, so they could make many mistakes during the next 90 minutes. Toni Kroos noted that the fitness level of the players are really good and improving because of the rest days. As you may know, Modric and Kroos had a rest during the weekend. They have not played against Osasuna and Real Madrid still won the game.
