The 21st century has given us great players with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. We have also witnessed some of the records we thought would never be broken being shattered by these players.
With the likes of so many great players, UEFA has decided to name their best 11 of the 21st century.
Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas features between the posts. The Spaniard has made over 500 appearances for Los Blancos during a brilliantly successful sixteen-year spell with the Spanish club.
Philipp Lahm, Carles Puyol, Gerad Pique and Sergio Ramos make up the defensive back four, but many have pointed out that former Barcelona defender Puyol and current center-back Gerard Pique don’t deserve to be featured in the greatest 11 side.
The only English player featured is Steven Gerrard. The ex Liverpool legend had won the infamous Champions League Final against AC Milan and has made over 500 club appearances for the Reds.
And the other two obvious choices were Xavi and Iniesta filling in the other two spots in midfield. While the likes of Thierry Henry, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo lead the attacking line.
Recently Cristiano Ronaldo has been featured in the UEFA team 11 times now while Lionel Messi has been featured 8 times.
And Spaniards Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Andres Iniesta & Carles Puyol have been featured 6 times each.
