The clash between Valencia and Barcelona was the central match of the tour. Spanish journalists started talking about Rodrigo’s transfer right before the game against Barcelona. Before the match, Valencia’s coach said that Rodrigo is the player of Valencia, while Barcelona’s coach admitted the interest of the team in many good strikers.
Barcelona and Valencia had a very tough mid-week match. In plan, those should not be tough, but Valencia and Barcelona started with bench players, and overall, those matches were tough. As of now, both teams have advanced to the last 16 of Copa Del Rey.
Valencia had a serious problem in midfield. Dani Parejo got the red card in the previous tour of La Liga, and that’s why he missed the match against Barcelona. Keep in mind that Valencia can’t beat Barcelona at home since 2007. So the statistics were not on the side of the host team.
Missed penalty and perfect first half from Ter Stegen
The first goal-scoring moment happened in the 10th minute. Pique could not play correctly in the penalty area of Barcelona, and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Dani Parejo is the leading penalty taker in the team, but unfortunately, he was not playing on Saturday. Maxi Gomez took the ball and decided to use the penalty. Ter Stegen was so good that he could save the penalty kick and chances of Barcelona to win the match. In the first half, Valencia’s players had three other chances but could not score the goal.
Making history in the second half
Valencia made history in the second half. Host team players started with sharp counter-attacks, and Barcelona’s defense could not keep up with attacks. In the 48th minute, Valencia scored the first goal of the match. Gameiro crossed the ball from the right-wing, and Jordi Alba scored the own goal. Barcelona decided to attack more and play on Lionel Messi. Argentinian players could not score a goal and fail in many chances in the second half. On 77th minute, Valencia created another terrific opportunity, and Maxi Gomez could convert shot into the goal. Fun fact is that Valencia had only one shot on target in the second half but scored two goals. One goal came from Barcelona player and one from Maxi Gomez.
