Laporta’s banner won’t decide the future

Victor Font appeared on Friday morning to criticize Joan Laporta’s campaign, despite not mentioning him by name at any point, and he noted that a banner would not solve Barcelona’s future but rather a straightforward, definite project. There are 17 days left before the voting is taken to decide on a new Barcelona president, and Laporta is considered as the favourite. “The banner won’t decide the future. We need a project,” Font explained. “The will is for people to vote based on perception, I have been told many times that elections are won with charisma, but that alone cannot work. We cannot vote based on the perception of the sextuple 12 years ago. We cannot build the future looking at the past.”

Ronald Koeman has to make sporting decisions

Font also targeted rumours of potential signatures, suggesting that Barcelona’s financial situation needs to be looked at before making decisions. “Several media sources have generated rumours of big stars signing,” he added. “This is irresponsible because if we recently said that there are no €1.5 million to sign Eric Garcia, we cannot create false expectations. You cannot sign certain players. Let’s not use rumours to confuse people.” Josep Maria Bartomeu appointed Ronald Koeman. There is a feeling that no matter what he does from a coaching point of view. The Dutch coach will find his job under threat irrespective of who wins the election. Simply because they want to define their era. “We have to do our best to encourage the team. Give it stability and make sure that we compete to the last moment in every competition,” Font continued.

“The 4-1 result is difficult, but we’ve seen us do things that are at least as difficult, if not more. Koeman has to make sporting decisions.”
