Kylian Mbappe’s current deal with the French club expires in 2022, but the two parties have yet to agree on a potential renewal.
There’s in no money at Barca to sign Kylian Mbappe
Barcelona presidential candidate Victor Font has made it clear that Barcelona do not have the funds to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain this summer. Mbappe’s current deal with the French club expires in 2022, but the two parties have yet to agree on a potential renewal. “We cannot seek to sign Mbappe because there is no money for that,” Font told reporters. “We have to check the players whose contracts are ending”. Font emphasised that elections, which had already been postponed once due to COVID-19 restrictions, should not be rescheduled again, as this could potentially harm the club. “The delay in elections is not good for Barcelona,” Font added. “After the defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, we saw that Leo Messi would like to see that there is a sporting plan.”
“We tried to bring about a change with the help of the government. We were the only ones who asked for alternative voting systems so that the pandemic would not change the elections that are necessary to guarantee the right to vote”. Xavi has allegedly agreed to return to Barcelona if Font wins the elections. The presidential candidate argued that his board is ready to give the former midfielder the status that Sir Alex Ferguson had at Manchester United. “Xavi Hernandez is a unique asset. And I told myself that we need to create optimal conditions so that it doesn’t happen what happened with Pep Guardiola, who came, emptied himself and then left,” Font continued. “After Johan Cruyff and Pep, Xavi arrives. People need to know this. We want Xavi to be what Ferguson was at Manchester United: coach and general manager.”
