Joan Laporta – the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ character

Barcelona’s presidential election is getting closer. Despite Joan Laporta holding the beloved tag, his rival Victor Font has urged fans to look past the former president’s rhetoric, suggesting that he has no project, even comparing him to the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ character. Laporta ran a lot in the campaign to bring Barcelona back to the glory years, keeping Lionel Messi and putting his sporting interests at the centre of Los Cules again. However, Font made it clear that despite all these promises and positive words, there was little evidence from Laporta of a plan to achieve it. “Laporta did not explain his project, and he just surrounded himself with Barcelona assets,” Font explained. “Many members voted for Laporta by mail, not knowing how he would make sporting decisions, which is the most important thing.”

The presidential candidates have to change a lot at the club

“He’s not talking about Jordi Cruyff. Who will take up positions of power? We have always given names that say what each person will do, but he wants people to vote in memory of a sextet from so many years ago; this situation saddens me.” Barcelona’s financial precariousness is also a vital issue in this election, and Font does not hit the question of how the club needs to move forward safely. “There is a certain amount of controversy surrounding economic amounts,” added Victor Font. “It’s amazing that no one says anything about that. We have to change a lot at Barcelona, and we need to join together and unite, putting the interests of the club first.”
