West Ham is set to announce their new manager after sacking Manuel Pellegrini on Monday with David Moyes, former manager almost certain of taking over at London Stadium.
After the 2-1 home defeat by Leicester, Pellegrini managerial roles were dismissed from West Ham. He did not leave the club alone. Director of football and Mario Husillos also left the club.
The club is said to have made “one of their biggest managerial mistakes” in letting Moyes leave for Pellegrini.
Despite the action, West Ham is determined to have someone in place before a home match against Bournemouth.
The person to save West Ham from relegation to the Championship is the former Everton and Manchester United boss, Moyes. The 55-year-old is certain to take over at London Stadium.
Moyes took the reins midway through 2017/18 with West Ham in relegation trouble. He led them to 13th but departed the club soon after in favor of Pellegrini.
The Scottish boss is due to meet the Club officials on Sunday. However, his contract was not renewed with West Ham stating they were “looking to go in another direction.”
On his departure, West Ham provided Pellegrini with a significant transfer budget. However, Hammers saw results nosedive this season following an injury to the first-choice goalkeeper, Lucasz Fabianski.
Even going into the Leicester game, it was hoped the Chilean manager would turn the situation around. But, Leicester’s victory with a virtual reserve team left West Ham’s hierarchy fearing a change had to be made to save their top-flight future.
Is Stadium move still a problem?
Pellegrini’s appointment was one of the biggest contracts in the division. Initially, it worked out well as West Ham finished 10th, five points off a European spot.
But the size of his deal and the sum of more than £160m spent on player transfers have been born out of a desire to appease frustrations among West Ham fanbase at leaving Upton Park in 2016. Said Samuel as he told the supplement.
He said, “Because of the issue around the unpopularity on the move to the London Stadium, there is a lot of trying to keep the fans happy about West Ham. Moyes wasn’t particular. He was seen as being quite a dour manager. the results were great but were not the greatest.”
“They are trying to win the hearts and minds of the supporters all the time. You know how that is done. You spend a lot of money and get results.”
