Barça have named the team captain and vice-captains in the new season. The four Catalans remained unchanged for the third season in a row.
Barcelona striker Lionel Messi, who recently thought about changing the club, will also be the captain of the Catalan team in the 2020/21 season. The press service of Barcelona spreads the information about it.
The Argentine forward will have three replacements in the captain’s armband, which he will wear after the departure of Andres Iniesta from the club in 2018: Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, and Sergi Roberto (in the same order). Consequently, the Barcelona captain and vice-captain team will remain unchanged for the third season in a row.
Recall that after the end of the 2019/20 season, Lionel Messi notified Barcelona by fax of his desire to replace the club. Still, the Catalans refused to release the Argentine star for free and demanded 700 million euros in the transfer, according to a clause in his contract.
Finally, the 33-year-old player chose to refrain from arguing with the club and started training for the new season on September 7 with Barcelona, which has a new head coach – Ronald Koeman.
The Spanish 2020/21 Championship starts on September 13, and Barcelona will be in the third round of La Liga from September 27 and will face Villarreal at home. The Catalans, who played in the Champions League play-offs in August, will play their first two rounds of La Liga later.
