The format of the postponed European Championship may change – the Daily Mail writes.

 

We read in the publication that thinking and reasoning about changing the format of the continental championship in UEFA has already started. Daily Mail reports that the number of host cities for the European Championships may be reduced and changed.

The European Championships were supposed to take place this summer. But they were postponed for a year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In Italy, Rome was to host the tournament, and in Spain, Bilbao.

The German news agency DPA asked UEFA officials if the information  was right. UEFA said that they do not want to change the either format or the cities of the European Championship. “The European Championship should start on June 11, 2021, and end on July 11. Our goal is not to change the format and the host cities. ”

UEFA adds that they are in constant contact with all the host cities and hope that nothing will change. As you know, the European Championship matches will be held in Munich, Rome, St. Petersburg, Baku, Copenhagen, London, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Bilbao, Dublin, and Budapest.

The ex-captain of the German national team Philipp Lahm confirms that many possible scenarios are being considered in UEFA. “It is possible that some cities will not be able to host the games due to the Corona crisis,” he told the Welt newspaper.
