Wojciech Szczesny recalled an incident involving cigarette smoking. The Polish goalkeeper was smoking while playing in Arsenal, and Arsene Wenger also knew that.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who is currently defending the honor of Turin’s Juventus, recalled an incident related to cigarette smoking, which is related to the 2015 Premier League match against Southampton (0: 2).

After the game with the Saints, the Polish goalkeeper of the “Gunners” appeared only in the glorious matches of England, and later the player left the London club and transferred to Rome on loan.

Smoking in the dressing room cost the goalkeeper a place to lose.

“I used to smoke a lot during that time, and Arsene Wenger knew about it very well. He just didn’t want anyone to do that in the dressing room, and I knew it. After the final whistle, I was overwhelmed with emotions and decided to smoke one cigarette. I hid in the corner.

But someone noticed me and told the boss about it. A few days later, I met him. Arsene asked me if this was true, and I replied, “Yes.” He fined me, and the story ended with that. Wenger then warned me that I would not be able to play for some time.

I expected to be back in a few weeks, but David Ospina was playing brilliantly. I had two options: to stay and fight for a place in the squad, or to go on loan and prove that I was the best goalkeeper in the club, ”Szczesny recalled.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper of the Polish national team defended the dignity of Arsenal in London in 2009-2017, from which he played on loan in Brentford and Rome. Since the summer of 2017, Szczesny has been defending the honor of Turin’s Juventus. With them he has twice won the Italian championship and once won the country’s Cup and Super Cup.
