Xavi is proud to continue with Al-Sadd two more seasons

Xavi has ended rumours that he could take over as Barcelona head coach by signing a two-year deal with Al-Sadd. The 41-year-old has been strongly tipped to take over at the Camp Nou after becoming a club legend through 17 years with Barcelona first team. But now, Xavi is going to stay at the Qatari club until 2023. “We have reached a lot together, scored goals, won games and titles, and we are all very proud of this success. Getting this kind of assist is the best that any coach can get,” Xavi said. “I have everything I could want to do everything well, and I am proud to continue with Al-Sadd for two more seasons.” Xavi also denied reports that there is a clause in his new contract that allows him to leave at any time.

“This is not true,” Xavi noted. “I have a two-season deal with Al-Sadd, and I respect that contract – and I also respect the formal negotiation methods between all parties.” Since taking over as Al Sadd’s boss in 2019, Xavi has led the club to six trophies, demonstrating his managerial potential. Combined with his legendary playing career at the Blaugrana, that possibility has made Xavi one of the first names indicated as a future Barcelona head coach over the past year. Xavi himself admitted earlier this year that he hopes to one day manage his former club, mentioning: “Of course I would like to be the head coach of Barcelona. I have said it many times.” But it looks like that Xavi’s time will have to come in the future, despite growing pressure on Ronald Koeman as he nears the end of his first year in charge.

Barca won the Copa Del Rey this season but were kicked off the Champions League in the final 16 stage, and their La Liga title race is likely to fall just short.
