Xavi Hernandez insists his coaching tactics are based on the principles learned from Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola during their time in Barcelona.
Xavi Hernandez was one of the pillars on which the foundation of Barcelona’s golden generation that swept all under Pep Guardiola was laid on.
Operating from a similar position as that of Xavi, Guardiola was once a key player in Barcelona’s “dream team” under Johan Cruyff. He helped the club land their first European Cup.
The roles then switched in 2008. Guardiola turned Xavi into what Cruyff had made him to be the engine of the team. The results were outstanding and Barcelona went ahead and won a sextuple during his time.
Currently, Xavi has hanged his boots and embarked on a coaching career. The 40-year-old says he tries to apply the similar ideologies he learned under Guardiola’s patronage. In his eyes, (Xavi) Guardiola is the best coach in the world.
“I’ve learned a lot with Guardiola. From the way he is, the ambition he has, the desire and passion that he feels. He’s a football-obsessed tactician. It has been a pleaser to be around him.” Said Xavi.
“To be honest, I consider him the best coach in the world right now. So, any knowledge he can impart to me will be more than welcome. It’s a privilege to have him around contributing ideas.”
